What Is Pilates?

Originally known as Contrology, the Pilates exercise method was developed in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates. Influenced by martial arts, yoga, gymnastics, and dance, the exercises and movement sequences are performed using specially designed equipment. The focus is on breathing patterns, body posture, proper technique execution, and mind-body connectivity. Because Pilates exercise conditions your entire body, it’s an indispensable component to any fitness regimen.
